Mumbai: It has been a long and a difficult journey for AR Rahman who had once nearly given up music because he did not have money.
But he carried on with his passion and has now won the Oscar and Grammy awards.
Now Rahman's music in Slumdog Millionaire and his Jai Ho has won him two Grammy Awards in Log Angeles.
"Hey guys back in India! Awesome we got two Grammys again. God bless you all for your prayers. your good wishes and love," said Rahman after winning the awards.
Rahman had created history in 2009 by winning not one but two Oscars as the 81st Academy Awards.
Now the Mozart from Madras has come a long way before stepping onto the stage at the Kodak Theatre.
Rahman lost his father Shekhar, a musician in Malayalam films, when he was just nine years old.
The family rented out the musical instruments lying in the father's studio to make ends meet.
He went on to win a scholarship in western classical music at Oxford's Trinity College.
Born as Dileep Kumar, he became Allah Rakha Rahman in 1998.
Rahman was all of 11 when he started playing the keyboard professionally for music director Illia Raja's troupe in 1977.
The young boy went on to make many hit jingles, only to be spotted by director Mani Ratnam at an award function when he was 25 years old.
His music for Mani Ratnam's Roja broke new barriers in film music and the debutant music director won his first National Award.
Since then he has won three National Awards, many Filmfares, the Padma Shree and the Padma Bhushan.
He also became the first Indian musician ever to win a Golden Globe, a Bafta Award and two Academy Awards.
Rahman has given Indian popular music a whole new sound and given it never before international identity.
