Radio frequency identification for RGUHS marks cards

Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS) will introduce Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) for answer books, marks cards and convocation certificates to make the examination process transparent and to reduce the case of fake certificates.

Announcing this and other innovations adopted during the 2011-12 examinations, to be implemented this year, Vice-Chancellor of the university Dr K S Sriprakash stressed on the need to make the examination system effective, student-friendly and tamper-proof.

“In the forthcoming convocation, the students will receive tamper proof marks cards and convocation certificates fitted with the RFID mode. We get calls from embassies about the authenticity of certificates on many occasions. This is the reason we have introduced these certificates that will have invisible ink, gold embossing, fluorescent, holograms, bar codes, colour photograph, RFID penetrating ink, anti-copying and lamination techniques that make the certificate tamper proof,” he added.

The changes in the online evaluation system, the revamping of the online question paper transmission, the computerised data entry and other steps like online theory and practical marks will benefit the system drastically. He said that the introduction of online entry of marks have helped convert many procedures related to declaration of results, retotalling, issuing of examination application forms and the likes from manual to computerisation. “Our university has made all the theory examination marks to be entered online from whichever centre the valuation is taking place. This, along with the online compilation of internal assessment marks and practical marks have enabled the examination section to announce the results faster, thus reducing the errors caused by manual entry and easy retrieving of the data,” explained N S Ashok Kumar, Registrar (Evaluation), RGUHS.

The cumbersome and bulky method of circulating question papers to the examination centres at the time of starting of examination has been replaced by introduction of online question papers.  “The introduction of online question papers just 30 minutes before the start of an exam has removed all the suspicion and has brought back the confidentiality of the whole examination system. Also, to reduce the number of valuation days and to reduce the delay in transportation, zonal system was introduced,” he said.
