The public, who have, of late, been arriving in large numbers after the special cell for land grab cases was formed, wondered if they would have to approach the office located at St Thomas Mount or the Egmore Police Commissioner’s office.“If we are not satisfied with the action taken at the police station, where do we go and whom do we meet - come here to the St Thomas Mount office or go to Egmore. This is confusing,” said Sekar, who came along with a complainant from Ambattur. But their worries and queries fell on deaf ears as the police authorities were tightlipped about the merger. “We do not know about the State government’s plan. We are also waiting for it,” said an official at from the suburban police. Even as some expressed confusion over the merger, some members of the public, who were present at the grievance meet, were surprised when asked about the merging of the two commissionerate . They said they were not even aware of it.“We know that this is the Commissionerate where we should come to lodge a complaint. We never heard about any merger,” said another complainant, who did not wish to be named.Ever since the suburban police commissionerate was formed in 2008, the public were encouraged to lodge complaints at the grievance day meet that takes place on there on all working days between 11 am and 1.30 pm.The complainants get to meet the suburban police commissioner and other higher officials directly along with their grievances.A separate grievance cell also functions here and the complaints are recorded manually in a register and later updated in the computer. The police official concerned, to whom either the police commissioner or the deputy commissioner would forward the complaint to, will have to report back to the Commissionerate on the action that was taken on the complaint within a week’s time.
