BALASORE: Buoyed by the success of the developmental trial of hypersonic surfacetosurface Shourya missile, DRDO is planning a user specific test of mediumrange nuke capable ballistic missile PrithviII from its defence base off the Orissa coast on Monday.
Defence sources said preparations for the test have reached the final stage. The missile will be tested by a special regiment raised by the Indian Army with the logistic support from DRDO scientists from the launching complex III of the Integrated Test Range (ITR)."Range integration has been completed and the missile integrated with the launcher. If everything goes as planned and the weather is conducive, the test would be conducted as per schedule," a source from the test range told The Express.

In an earlier trial on September 24, the missile had nose dived immediately after taking off from the launch pad.

A defence scientist said the missile can be taken close to the forward line over any kind of terrain. It has been designed to deliver advanced conventional warheads. The missile stops climbing when it reaches an altitude of 30 km and dives at the target at an 80 degree angle, he said.
