New Delhi: President A P J Abdul Kalam tripped and fell on the dais at a public function on Thursday.

Kalam, who was rapidly walking towards the podium to address the audience at the Sangeet Natak Akademi Awards, 2006, slipped but was not hurt.

The incident took place when the 75-year-old President was tripped by a walking stick being used by 87-year-old eminent Manipuri scholar and an awardee N Khelchandra Singh who was seated at the end of the line on the dais.

He was honoured just minutes before by Kalam with the Akademi Fellowship.

"There was no injury to the President, who completed his 15-minute address and later sat through the entire programme", news agency PTI quoted Rashtrapati Bhavan spokesman S M Khan as saying.

The President, unperturbed by the incident, got up even before his aides could reach for help continued with his address.
