RAMANATHAPURAM: The 104th Thevar Jayanthi and 49th Gurupooja of freedom fighter Muthuramalinga Thevar began at Pasumpon with pomp and fervour, amid high security.Hundreds of people thronged the Thevar Memorial to pay their respects to their late leader since early morning on Friday. Kovai Kamatchipuri Adheenam Sivalingeswara Swamigal performed poojas at the memorial in the wee hours. Many visitors carried milk pot and other ‘kavadis’ to the memorial.M Rajeswaran, state secretary, All India Forward Bloc (Aandi Thevar faction), Ammavasai of All India Vallarasu Forward Bloc and others visited Pasumpon.Over 5,500 police personnel have been deployed. Bomb detection squad, three dog squads and other intelligence units have also been pressed into service. Around 700 barricades have been erected in different parts of the district and all vehicles are being screened to prevent entry of deadly weapons and liquor bottles.Jaya to Pay Homage to Thevar in ChennaiChief Minister J Jayalalithaa will pay homage to Muthuramalinga Thevar in Chennai on October 30. The Chief Minister will pay floral tributes to the Thevar statue at Nandanam junction on the Anna Salai at 11 am. Ministers and functionaries of the AIADMK will be present.
