BANGALORE: Police have arrested two on charges of cheating a Hyderabad-based private power company of Rs1.7 crore.The accused have been identified as Narasimha Chowdhury and Mohan. Police said Hyderabad-based Power Earth had sold power to Bescom and Karnataka government owed Rs17 crore to the company. Chowdhury learnt about this and approached Power Earth’s managing director, Prasad.The conman used the name of Power Minister Shobha Karandlaje and told Prasad that he would help the company get the payment that Karnataka government owes it. The miscreant asked 10 per cent commission for the “favour”. The MD of the power company agreed to it.Meanwhile, a Bangalore court directed the Power Ministry to pay the dues to Power Earth. The company had filed a petition in this regard. When Chowdhury learnt about it, he approached Prasad again and asked him to pay the 10 per cent commission immediately as Karandlaje was demanding it to clear the dues.Prasad sought some time from Chowdhury and contacted Karandlaje. The minister learnt about the plot and informed police, which culminated with arrest of the miscreants when they came to Bangalore.Reportedly the two had roped in three persons who are said to be working with a reputed media house in Bangalore.Additional Commissioner of Police (Law and Order), T Suneel Kumar, said the police were yet to ascertain the role of the other accused.11-year-old kids drown in lakeTwo 11-year-olds drowned in Dommasandra Lake in the outskirts of the city in Sarjapur police limits, on Saturday noon.The deceased have been identified as Rajesh and Sushma, both fifth grade students at Dommasandra Government School. According to the police, the duo after finishing the classes went to swim in the lake though both did not know swimming.Rajesh who tried to swim drowned and Sushma, who tried to rescue him, also drowned in the lake. The temple’s priest noticed them drowning and alerted the villagers about it. Later, the bodies were fished out from the lake, the police said.`10 Lakh Stolen From HouseBurglars raided a house in BTM Layout and made away with `10 lakh on Friday night.They raided the house of one Mohammed Yousuf, in Madeena Nagar in Mico Layout police limits. Yousuf told police he had gone to a hotel in the evening and returned at around 11 pm.He found that the window grills were broken and `10 lakh were missing from the cupboard.Police have registered a case and are investigating.Rowdy murderedSome unidentified miscreants murdered a rowdy in Mallathalli in Jnanabharathi police limits late on Friday night. The deceased, Prathap (24), was a resident of Manjunathanagar,near Basaveshwaranagar. Police said Prathap had a financial dispute with some persons regarding purchase of an autorickshaw and there had been a quarrel in this regard a week ago. On a tip-off, police raided a flat at 2nd floor of Silver Glade Apartment at Wellington Road and arrested ten members.
