Agartala: Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar will discuss issues related to economic development of the state and retaining of the special category status for all north-eastern states, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday, state government officials said.
On Tuesday, Sarkar left for Delhi and would meet the Prime Minister on Wednesday. Earlier the Chief Minister told reporters that the North Eastern states would face development constraints if the status was withdrawn, as the states were given the special category status in view of their backwardness, hilly composition and remoteness.
Chief Ministers of the eight NE states, irrespective of their political affiliations, had earlier discussed the matter and expressed concern over the Centre's announcement to withdraw the status. The forum of the Chief Ministers of the region also drafted a common memorandum jointly and submitted it to the Prime Minister.
In their meeting on Tuesday, Sarkar and Modi will also discuss plans for Tripura's economic development.
