KOCHI: The preparations for the Piravom bypolls are in full swing with the Election Commission making elaborate arrangements for a peaceful voting.Security has been tightened and five special circles covering the Piravom Assembly Constituency have been formed as part of the vigil.Police pickets have been set up at Irumbanam where five polling stations have been declared as sensitive.Patrolling would be intensified at all the booths and five policemen would be deployed at each polling station.Apart from this, a patrolling unit would be set up for five booths.A striking force, under an SP, would also be deployed.A team, comprising a police official in the rank of a Sub-Inspector, executive magistrate, a videographer and armed policemen, will conduct patrolling in the constituency.The team will have the powers to seize unauthorised liquor, unaccounted money and arms.The Election Commission has already deputed election observers and deputy observers, who have already reached the constituency.Micro observers have also been deployed.There will be a video surveillance team under each deputy observer.A video-viewing team comprising an officer and two clerks have been formed.These personnel will monitor TV channels to check whether any advertisements or paid news items that violate norms are being aired.An accounting team will look into the expenses of each candidate and maintain a shadow register.The Election Commission is closely monitoring one-sided reports that come under paid news and various advertisements.There is a total of 1,83,170 voters in Piravom, of which 93,146 are women.
