THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: KPCC president Ramesh Chennithala has charged CPM state secretary Pinarayi Vijayan with making a volte face on the T P Chandrasekharan murder case probe. He warned that attempts to interfere in the investigations by issuing threats to sleuths and the media will not work as in the past.Addressing a news conference here on Friday, he asked Pinarayi Vijayan why he was trembling with fear as the investigation was gaining momentum and coming out with threats when none had any misconception over the efficiency, credibility and track record of the police officials involved in the probe, whom the CPM also had trusted much during the tenure of the former LDF government.“Summoning a person for questioning is only a normal procedure followed in a crime investigation, which Pinarayi Vijayan knows. Then why worry when a paid office secretary was summoned? Vijayan and the CPM leadership never protested when a district committee member and area committee members in the case were quizzed,” he pointed out. “If one looks at the Friday’s and the other days’ press conferences by Pinarayi Vijayan, the palpable difference in his words is clear. Earlier, he maintained that the CPM was not involved in the brutal murder. But on Friday, he shifted his stand and said that if anyone had been found violating the party line, action would be taken,” Chennithala said.The CPM should allow the smooth conduct of the probe instead of obstructing it through threats such as holding a sit-in in front of the police station, he said. “The current stand of the CPM and its leadership is a shameless act and a challenge to the people in the state,” he said.Chennithala also demanded a clarification on why former Home Minister and CPM leader Kodiyeri Balakrishnan had gone to the house of Andheri Sura, who is serving a double life sentence. “What relationship Kodiyeri has with Andheri Sura? Is he a party member or sympathiser to attend a wedding held at the latter’s house ? The conspiracy to kill Chandrasekharan was reportedly hatched in the course of the reception gathering,” he noted.“None should interfere in the probe and all those who are involved in the heinous murder should be put behind bars. The Congress and UDF are committed to this stand,” he maintained. “There might have been some settlements among the top brass of the political parties in the state to save the murderers, though I am not aware of it. But in this case, the UDF Government is moving ahead with determination,” he said.
