BANGALORE: G R Mohan, a petitioner and party in person, who had filed a public interest litigation (PIL) in the High Court seeking the reopening of the HAL airport, withdrew his case on Monday. The petitioner was allegedly upset over the delay in solving the matter and could not find time to attend the hearings.A batch of PILs were filed seeking directions from the court to reopen the HAL Airport for commercial purposes. The case was filed in 2008. Earlier, nine separate division benches of the High Court had taken up the matter. The petitioner had filed the PIL contending that a Parliamentary Committee on Transport, Culture and Tourism had recommended the reopening of the HAL airport which was closed for commercial operations in May 2008. The matter came up before the division bench comprising Justice K L Manjunath and Justice B Manohar and the court recorded the order for permitting to withdraw the public interest litigation, though it is not allowed in most of the cases. It is the 10th division bench which is hearing the PIL on the closure of HAL airport after the new Bangalore International Airport became operational at Devanahalli.
