BHUBANESWAR: Magician extraordinaire PC Sorcar (Junior)’s love for Orissa is there for all to see. The man is so much in love with the land of Lord Jagannath that he calls himself an ‘Ambassador of Orissa’. He even wants his very own “Hogwarts School”, in the State. “I have a very strong connection with Orissa and I feel I belong to the State. My father started his career after seeking blessings from the Lokanath Temple and when he wanted a child, he prayed before Lord Jagannath and I was born. My house is named after the Lord,” said Prodip Chandra Sorcar. The 65-year-old magician nurtures the dream of establishing a magic research centre in Orissa. If India is the land of magic and artistic excellence, Orissa is the gravity centre, he said. His dream of setting up a magic research centre dates back to his days as a kid when he accompanied his legendary father Protul Chandra Sorcar to Rabindra Mandap. “My father met an elderly political leader and they agreed over a research centre. Both are no more but I had overheard the conversation and it is still in my mind. I want to fulfil my father’s wish,” said the magician.  Sorcar Jr’s Illusion Or Reality Magic Research Society has a large number of members from Orissa who he says are doing great work. His troupe uses designs for his magic shows which are made in Pipili. But Sorcar Jr’s connection with Orissa does not end here. He wants an Oriya groom for his magician daughter Maneka and she says she has now qualms about it either.  Sorcar and his daughter will perform together in the City for the next few days. “Although it will be a combination presentation, we will compete,” said the ageing magician showing exuberance of a youngster. Sorcar Jr said his wife, Jayashree, is a better magician than he is but he gushes when he talks about Maneka. “I was so proud when Maneka cycled on water in a show at Paris. She did that before the who’s who of the world of magicians and set a record.” Maneka, on her part, is excited to be doing the show with her father in Bhubaneswar. “I have always received overwhelming response from the audience and I have been here several times in the past. This time, it will be special as I will also make solo shows apart from combination with my father,” said Maneka, who got her MBA degree from Ohio University recently.
