Pakistan Army may oust Musharraf: Report
The Pakistan Army may oust President Pervez Musharraf if the rioting worsens.

London: The Pakistan Army may oust President Pervez Musharraf if the rioting worsens in the aftermath of Benazir Bhutto’s assassination, and if the opposition refuses to cooperate with Musharraf, a UK daily has said.

Musharraf may not survive the fallout of Bhutto’s death, because his intentions are deeply suspected by a growing number of Pakistanis, The Telegraph said.

It further said that even Musharraf’s departure would resolve nothing. The only hope is the formation of a national government, made up of all leading political figures to beat back the spectre of extremism and hold an orderly election, the paper said.

The Telegraph said that Musharraf would almost certainly cancel the parliamentary elections, which had been fixed for January 8, and added that the regime may be forced to take extraordinary measures, including the re-imposition of emergency or martial law.
