Pakistan film industry is apprehensive that Bollywood, if allowed to screen its movies there, will swamp it.

New Delhi: If Bollywood was allowed to screen its movies in Pakistan, it would swamp the film industry there, fears Pakistan film industry.

Pakistan's minister of state for information and broadcasting Tariq Azim expressed the apprehension of Pakistan film industry on Wednesday in New Delhi.

"There is indeed an apprehension, because of which Indian movies are not shown (in Pakistan). What you pay to an extra here, in Lahore you can make a full movie with that amount," PTI quoted Azim as saying.

Pakistan cable operators were showing all Indian channels, but in India no Pakistani channel is being shown, claimed Azim while interacting with the media on the sidelines of Rotary South Asian Goodwill Summit-2007.

"I am disappointed that even in the hotel where Pakistani officials prefer to stay, not a single channel of Pakistan is being shown," Azim said.

About half of the channels shown by the Pakistani cable operators were Indian channels, he added.

Noting that every newspaper and magazine was available on the internet, Azim said there should be a free flow of magazines and newspapers in both the countries.

The minister said there was no harm if India too showed Pakistani channels. "It will be learning experience for the Indians here to know what is happening in Pakistan."

Azim also said India was showing its strong presence in the books fairs being held in Pakistan. "People buy Indian academic books because they are affordable compared to those print in UK or USA."
