Doha: Indian mixed doubles tennis pair of Leander Paes and Sania Mirza justified their top billing by thrashing Thailand's Sonchat Ratiwatana and Montinee Tangphong 6-4, 6-3 to enter the semi-finals in the XVth Asian Games at Doha.
Though the Thailand team showed some resistance in the first set Paes and Sania had no trouble in the second set.
India are now assured of a bronze medal in the event.
But the team did not have much luck in the women's doubles event. Sania Mirza and Shikha Uberoi lost to the Japanese pair of Fyuda Ryoko and Yone-mura Tomoko 6-3, 7-6 in the pre-quarterfinals.
Wrestling
There was some good news from the wrestling arena too when Vinayak Dalvi won the bronze medal in the 55kg category in Greco-Roman style on Sunday night.
Dalvi beat Kyrghizstan's Rinat Usupjanov of 3-1 to claim the bronze. Earlier he had got the better of Dang Dinh Hue of Vietnam before losing to Jiao Huafeng of China.
After winning his bout Dalvi said: "I was confident and I was fully trained for the event."
"I am aiming for a gold in the Olympics now," he added.
However two other wrestlers - Dharmender Dalal (120Kg) and Manoj Kumar (84kg) - lost their first round bouts.
