TALCHER: The cutting of a panchayat road has led to an outcry with the affected people stalling work at Hingula mines on Saturday after they clashed with the police the previous day.The people of Talcher coalfield under Gopal Prasad panchayat accused the local administration of disregarding their pleas before clearing way for Hingula coal mine expansion.According to the villagers, in a meeting called by the sub-collector on October 10, they had agreed to dismantle the road on certain conditions. Neither the conditions were met nor they were taken into confidence before the administration went ahead with it under police protection, they alleged. The road that has been cut was a vital link to the village and the land adjacent to it belongs to a villager of Gopal Prasad, said Rajendra Singh, a village leader.Collector S P Mishra said the road that had been cut was on a government land and the villagers have been provided with an alternative route.
