BERHAMPUR: The five-decade-old demand of transfer of Odisha State Road Transport Corporation (OSRTC) land to the 125-year-old Khallikote Autonomous College in the city was conceded partly on Friday. Around two acres of land of the OSRTC was officially handed over to the college at a function held on the college campus. State Revenue Minister Surya Narayan Patra handed over the land patta to Khallikote Autonomous College principal Surendranath Behera. For the past many years the demand for the land transfer, adjacent to the college, was taken up by students and citizens of the city, cutting across party affiliations, for development of the college. Instead, the land was sold to Reliance for a mega shopping complex. The deal had to be shelved following frequent agitations by the college students. They, however, were not happy with the part transfer of the land. The students said there was a demand for transfer of the whole of 4.029 acres to the college. At present, only a portion of it has been handed over to the college. They demanded transfer of the rest 2.029 acres of the OSRTC land to the college at the earliest besides university status to the college. The Revenue Minister reiterated that the State Government was making efforts to elevate the autonomous college to a deemed university.
