Only 0.83% of people use condoms

BANGALORE: In an endeavor to create awareness among people on safe sex and sexually transmitted diseases, Bowring and Lady Curzon Hospital in association with Sugant, an NGO, distributed pamphlets and information brochures to the patients attendants Friday, the eve of Indian Condom Day.The hospital premises had a huge 18-feet condom on display to draw attention of patients and their family towards the importance of condom usage.Speaking to Express about the initiative, Dr Satishchandra, medical superintendent of Bowring Hospital, said, “A France-based company-Sugant, which is into condom manufacturing and works towards generating awareness about safe sex, approached the hospital to spread awareness about sexually transmitted diseases.”“Since Bowring and Lady Curzon is equipped with the facilities, the campaign was initiated from here,”   he added.He also maintained that according to the study by the Sugant, only 0.83 per cent of  people make use of condoms and they are yet to be educated about the usage and benefits of condoms.All the patients and their attendants visiting the hospital were handed leaflets and pamphlets with  required information   about safe sex and its importance. Patients were informed about safe sex practices and were educated on the use of condom.
