CHENNAI: Online payment for the services offered by the Regional Transport Offices (RTOs) and the unit offices of the State Transport Department will become a reality within a month, thanks to a direction given by Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa on Friday.The public can make payments from their homes or through computer centres or banks. It will help bring down the long queues in front of the RTOs or other unit offices and thus save time. To make the system a reality, the chief minister also directed to make neces-sary amendments to the related rules. All works in the transport department has been computerised and a separate website will be created. RTO offices can be located using pin code, application forms for various services can be dowloaded and applications for obtaining learner’s/driving licence can be submmitted online all through the website. At present, long tiring queues are a daily affair at the RTOs and their respective unit offices as large number of people visit these places for paying taxes and for availing other services.
