In a suspected incident of age-old gender bias and discrimination against the girl child, a newborn girl, whose umbilical cord was still intact, was found buried alive in a field in Jajpur district of Odisha.
Jajpur (Odisha): In a suspected incident of age-old gender bias and discrimination against the girl child, a newborn girl, whose umbilical cord was still intact, was found buried alive in a field in Jajpur district of Odisha.
Fortunately, she was rescued by a villager of Shyamsundarpur under Dharmashala block, after he discovered her dangling feet above the earth mound at around 9:30 am on Saturday.
It is suspected that the newborn girl has been abandoned by her own parents.
After being rescued, the infant was reportedly handed over to an ASHA worker and has been admitted to the Dharmashala hospital.
Her condition was reported to be critical.
