Now, video conferencing at Yanam jail

PUDUCHERRY: The video conferencing facility at special sub-jail in Yanam was operationalised. The remand of life convicts booked in subsequent crimes has been conducted by a judicial magistrate court through the facility.According to a statement from IG of Prisons, Pankaj Kumar Jha, on Saturday, during the video conference on Tuesday, senior officials of the Puducherry police were present at Puducherry court and officials from prison department at special sub jail Yanam operated the facility.The video conferencing facility at sub jail, Mahe, is  also routinely operated.  Jha  said the facility would go a long way in preventing contraband smuggling during transit of prisoners to courts.
