HYDERABAD: From next Monday, don’t be surprised if workers at the rythu bazars greet you in uniforms a la their counterparts in malls and big shopping complexes. The Andhra Pradesh Agriculture Marketing Department has directed the chief executive officer of the rythu bazars to enforce a dress code for all the staff. The move comes in the wake of complaints from the public regarding poor service at the stalls. B Aravinda Reddy, Commissioner-Director, (agriculture & marketing), visited nine rythu bazars in Hyderabad and Rangareddy districts recently and found consumers running from pillar to post to register complaints, sources said.It was then that the commissioner took the decision to impose a dress code to make it easier for the people to identify the staff and approach them. “As the Commissioner-Director has ordered us to implement dress-code for the staff, we have provided dress material to 41 rythu bazars out of the 109 in the State.Assistant estate officers, supervisors and security men are given dress materials,” said PS Pradyumna, chief executive officer of rythu bazars.According to him, the dress material has been supplied to the estate officer in Hyderabad, Rangareddy, Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada and Kurnool area rythu bazars. “Initially, we are going to implement dress code only in main cities in 41 rythu bazars,” he said. As per the new dress code, the staff will be wearing sky blue shirts, navy blue trousers, black fabric belt and black shoes. However, estate officers can continue to work in civil dress.“I visit the rythu bazar at Erragadda regularly. I found some middle-men and farmers selling vegetables at more than the normal price. I wanted to lodge a complaint or at least inform the staff but couldn’t find any responsible official in the vicinity,” he said.KV Vijay Kumar, estate officer of Erragadda rythu bazar, admitted, “There is always confusion among farmers and consumers when it comes to finding out who is who. This dress code will help everybody particularly consumers.”
