Students who have studied Business Mathematics as a subject in their plus two are entitled to be admitted in B Arch course of the Anna University, the HC has observed.
Justice N Paul Vasanthakumar made the observation while allowing a writ petition from minor Y Vandana, represented by her father Yuvaraj, on Sept 3. The petition sought to quash the words ‘Business Mathematics Not Eligible’ in the circular dated April 30 this year of the Commissioner of Technical Education (CoTE). Senior advocate K Doraisamy pointed out that the Council of Architecture in New Delhi by a communication dated June 18 this year stated that candidates with Business Mathematics were eligible for admission to B Arch course. Hence, the stand taken by the Technical Education Commissioner was illegal and unsustainable. Accepting Doraisamy’s arguments, the judge held the impugned circular as invalid. The petitioner was qualified to get the admission in B Arch course, he said. If any seat was available under the SC quota and if the petitioner was having the required cut-off mark, the authorities concerned were bound to select and admit her in any one of the colleges within a week, the judge added.
