HYDERABAD: The managing director (circulation) of Sakshi Telugu daily, owned by Kadapa MP YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, and his son were arrested by the city police on Friday in connection with a dowry harassment case. Both were produced in the court and remanded to judicial custody after which they were shifted to the Chanchalguda central prison. According to A Madhavi Latha, inspector, women police station, south zone, A Narsing Rao and his 33-year-old son Srikanth were allegedly harassing Srikanth's wife Priyanka for additional dowry. The victim lodged a complaint alleging that her father-in-law and husband were demanding an additional dowry of Rs 3 lakh and harassing her. She also alleged that her husband had, in an inebriated condition, assaulted her a few days ago. Priyanka, a resident of Gowliguda in the city, got married to Srikanth of Chaitanyapuri Colony in 2003. At the time of her marriage her parents gave `3 lakh in cash and 10 tolas of gold ornaments to Srikanth.it was claimed. “Srikanth too had worked in the same newspaper but quit the job a few months ago. He was addicted to alcohol and started harassing Priyanka for an additional dowry from her parents. Priyanka had lodged complaint earlier in 2010 and the issue was resolved with the family elders' involvement then,'' the inspector said. Basing on Priyanka's complaint, the women police registered a case against Srikanth and his father Narsing Rao under Section 498 (A) (husband or relative of husband of a woman subjecting her to cruelty ) and arrested them.
