HYDERABAD: Andhr a Pradesh chief information commissioner Jannat Hussain administrated oath of office to four RTI commissioners here on Tuesday. The new incumbents took charge immediately after the oath-taking. The four new RTI commissioners are C Madhukar Raj (retired IFS officer), P Vijaya Babu (Andhra Prabha editor ), S Prabhakar Reddy and M Ratan (retired IPS officers). Speaking to the media after the oath-taking function, Jannat Hussainn said, “All the RTI applications that has been pending for the past three years would be cleared soon and other issues in the department would also also be addressed as we have enough number of commissioners now.” Despite a powerful tool, he said, the RTI is yet to create an impact in rural India due to lack of awareness. Even, a majority of people in urban areas, though familiar with the name, do not know importance of the RTI. P Vijaya Babu, new RTI commissioner, said, the RTI Act is just a tool to ensure transparency between the government and the citizen, adding they (the new RTI commissioners) would do their best to promote the RTI Act. Officials from various government departments attended the oath-taking function.
