HYDERABAD: Governor ESL Narasimhan inaugurated a new building at the Basavatarakam Indo- American Cancer Hospital and Research Institute on Monday.Speaking on the occasion he pointed out, "Cancer is a psychological killer and proper counselling is as important as treatment." He also praised the late NT Rama Rao's vision to have a dedicated cancer hospital for underprivileged sections of the society.The cancer hospital's new building has added several facilities like the state-of-the-art 18,000 sq feet ICU room, an ultramodern laboratory, nine modular operating theaters and modern patient rooms.The governor urged the late NTR's son and chairman of the hospital N Balakrishna to follow in his father's footsteps and continue providing medical services to poor at affordable prices.He also asked hospital authorities to organise mobile hospitals to rural districts for early detection of cancer.N Balakrishna said the institution was his father's brainchild and the latter decided to provide cancer treatment to poor at affordable prices as his wife Nandamuri Basavataraka Rama Rao was a victim of cancer.R Ramachandra, chairman and managing director, Andhra Bank expressed his happiness for the institute serving over 20,000 cancer patients in the last 10 years with world-class facilities and at affordable rates.R Ramachandra was felicitated on the occasion for his continuous support to the initiative.
