Gangtok: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to arrive in Gangtok on Monday afternoon to declare Sikkim as the first organic state of the country.
Modi will be welcomed by Governor Srinivas Patil and Chief Minister Pawan Chamling who will be accompanied by Cabinet ministers and heads of all state government departments, a state official said.
His entourage will then proceeded to 'Chintan Bhawan' where he will officially announce the declaration at the National Conference on 'Sustainable Agriculture & Farmers Welfare' that was inaugurated on January 17 by Radha Mohan Singh, the Union Minister Of Agriculture and Family Welfare.
Modi's first day visit will conclude after a musical and cultural extravaganza to be held at Manan Kendra at Development area later in the evening.
He is scheduled to visit the horticulture and flower festival at Ridge Park and the Organic Fair at Saramsagardens on January 19.
