New Delhi: As Bollywood movie Namastey London opened in theatres across the country on Friday, the controversy over a shot in which actress Katrina Kaif allegedly wears a short skirt inside Ajmer Dargah continues to dog the Vipul Shah film.
The shrine committee of Hazrat Khwaja Moinuddin Chisti in Ajmer has threatened legal action against the filmmakers for showing disrespect to Islamic traditions, under which women wearing skimpy outfits are not allowed to enter a shrine.
The shrine committee had earlier demanded the removal of all the scenes shot in the shrine premises before the movie is released. However, film's director Vipul Shah maintains that Namastey London would be screened with the original shots taken there.
The controversy has put the film in a spotlight and the parties concerned as well as the informed audience would be observing keenly if the film actually retains the shots featuring Katrina Kaif in a knee-length skirt or if they have actually been removed at the Censor Board.
The shrine committee had earlier moved the Censor Board to get the controversial scenes removed.
Shah has already published a written apology in two national dailies over the controversy. "We went to the holy place with a guide and a permission. And we do not know who gave the permission. Even then, we tendered an apology concerning any irregularity in the permission of shoot," he says.
Shah claims that there was no controversy related to the film shooting at Khawja Moinudeen Chisti's Dargah and the Anjuman Committee has supported the scene. "It's a hypothetical controversy. I am telling you, there is nothing wrong," he maintains.
Katrina had been slapped a notice by the Dargah Committee last year for wearing a knee-length skirt, exposing her legs, inside the shrine premises while shooting last year. Apart from Shah and Katrina, similar notices had also been served on actor Rishi Kapoor and a local resident.
