BANGALORE: The Yelahanka police arrested two women, including a worker of Karnataka Rakshana Vedike (KRV), on charges of assaulting a couple. The accused have been identified as Vijayalakshmi, a KRV worker, and Akkayyamma, an employee with Anganawadi.Narayanappa, a physical education teacher, and his wife Shyamala, the victims, were hurt in the incident the police said.According to the police, Shyamala had borrowed a hand loan of Rs. 1.5 lakh from Akkayyamma in 2009 and had not returned the money. Though the latter had asked Shyamala to return her money, she had failed to return the money. On Wednesday morning, Akkayyamma came along with her son Upendra, also a KRV worker, Vijayalakshmi and one more person and asked the couple to give the money back. When they did not do so, the four allegedly attacked the couple and assaulted them.Later, based on the complaint filed by Shyamala, the police arrested Akkayyamma and Vijayalakshmi. But Upendra and his associate are absconding and search is on to nab them.But a source said that it was Shyamala who first attacked Akkayyamma, when she went alone in the morning to Shyamala’s residence, to ask the money. “The couple claimed that they had not borrowed the money and Shyamala assaulted her. Later, Akkayyamma informed her son Upendra about this and the latter along with three went to Shyamala’s residence and assaulted the couple,” the source added.
