MLA plays good samaritan, helps injured man

PUDUCHERRY: The presence of All India N R Congress legislator G Nehru enabled a patient, who was being rushed to JIPMER to reach the hospital quickly after tyre of the ambulance in which he was travelling burst.After the tyre burst, the ambulance hit a man on a scooter near the gate of the Rajiv Gandhi maternity hospital at Ellapillaichavady.The driver, fearing public anger, stopped the vehicle and fled,leaving the patient Shajahan and his relatives inside the ambulance.Some police personnel who were present tried to arrange for a vehicle from the maternity hospital, but nearly half an hour passed and no action was taken. The public, who gathered there by this time, learnt the plight of the patient and his relatives, still seated inside the ambulance. They tried to block the road in front of the hospital.AINRC MLA and Government whip G Nehru, who happened to pass by, was told about the incident and he went inside the hospital to conduct an enquiry.The maternity hospital ambulance was immediately pressed into service and the public carried Shajahan on the same stretcher to the maternity hospital ambulance, which  left for JIPMER.
