Misinformation behind change of candidates

CHENNAI: The changes made in the list of AIADMK candidates for certain posts to the local bodies during the past two days were due to the error of judgement by certain district level functionaries while selecting the candidates.AIADMK chief J Jayalalithaa was surprised at the protest from some parts of the State over the choice of certain candidates. After verifying the claims, she changed a few candidates in some places in deference to the views of the party’s grassroots level functionaries and cadre. Party sources said that the original list of candidates was announced based on the information given by the district secretaries. Later, after going through the representations from various quarters, the high command learnt that certain district secretaries had provided misinformation about some candidates.While preparing for the civic polls, the AIADMK high command had sought a list of eligible candidates who were capable and credible and those who could serve the people efficiently if elected. The credentials of the candidates were furnished by various local functionaries and finally they were submitted to the high command by the district secretaries.In some areas, the district secretaries had erred in their judgement because of which the party high command had to shoulder the blame.A couple of days ago, a large number of AIADMK cadre thronged the Poes Garden residence of Jayalalithaa and submitted representations seeking change of candidates.
