BANGALORE: With Reach 1 of Namma Metro ready to be inaugurated after the Prime Minister decides on a date, the city is preparing for the much-awaited metro ride. “We have sold 3,159 smart cards as on September 24. This is the total number of cards sold across all metro stations in the city,” said Yashwant Chavan, Public Relations Officer, Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL).BMRCL has collected Rs. 3,44,250 as revenue from the sale of metro cards at stations. They have also sold 829 cards online earning a revenue of Rs. 1,23,600. N Sivasailam, Managing Director, BMRCL had said that the route would be open to the public on the day of inauguration after Prime Minister Manmohan Singh formally declares it open. “We will have private security personnel manning the crowd and ensuring that there is no mishap,” Yashwant Chavan said.The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation had made strict arrangements with private security personnel at all stations and traffic regulations on all routes leading to the metro stations to manage the crowd on opening day. With officials still speculating on the inauguration date, there is no confirmation on when Reach 1 between, the 6.7 km stretch, from M G Road to Byappanahalli will be ready for commuters in the city.
