New Delhi: Local independent MLA, Mukhtar Ansari and 100 others were arrested in Mau on Tuesaday.
Jitendra Yadav, a resident of Kachchar village, lodged an FIR stating Ansari was responsible for inciting riots, murder and violation of curfew.
Fearing attacks, authorities turned away trains from Mau on Monday as communal tension continued to simmer.
As a precaution, the administration even disallowed Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and ruling Samajwadi Party leaders from entering Mau.
The violence in Mau, 282 km east of Lucknow, began on Friday after Muslims protested against a Hindu procession passing through their part of the town.
The communal violence that killed seven people and wounded 33 has spread to neighbouring districts.
The town was peaceful on Monday but authorities fear attacks on people travelling in trains to the area.
The fears have stemmed from communal violence in the past, like Godhra.
"All trains have been diverted to avoid any kind of attack by rioters," railway official Amitabh Lal said.
"We are keeping our fingers crossed as some people are apparently trying to fuel violence," government official Alok Sinha said.
Mau has a population of 1.4 million of which about 16 per cent are Muslims.
Mau is close to Ayodhya, where communal riots killed 3,000 in 1992.
