HYDERABAD: A software engineer from the city, 26-year-old Chikka Bhanu Prakash entered the Guinness Book of Records on Sunday for the heaviest weight lifted by a fingernail.Bhanu Prakash lifted 8.668 kg using his finger nail for 28 seconds to set the world record, which no one has ever attempted before. According to rules, he had to lift the weight at least five cm above the ground and for at least five seconds using any of his fingernails without any external support. Dr Vengeepuram Sreenathachary, a triple Guinness world record-holder witnessed the attempt in front of a sizable crowd at the Padmashali Bhavan in Ramkote and approved it.The software engineer failed in his first attempt on Sunday afternoon as the thread carrying weights could not handle the pressure. In the second attempt with a better thread, he easily carried 8.668 kg hung on to his fingernail. As a technique to achieve this feat, Bhanu had drilled a hole in his left thumbnail to make a loop to hang the weights. Bhanu Prakash hails from Bhoodanpochampally mandal in Nalgonda district and is presently living in Kothapet. An MCA by education, Bhanu Prakash reveals he always wanted to set a world record.Having taken his inspirations from a TV show back in 2004, Bhanu Prakash is confident anybody can beat his record. “All one requires is dedication and constant practice,” he says. He has not taken any guidance or mentoring. “I started practicing with smaller weights in 2004 and gradually I added more weights,” he explains, saying there is no extra protein and calcium diet or finger exercises but only hard work. For now this record-holder just wants to concentrate on his job and get settled down in life.
