TNC alleged that their chief Mamata Banerjee , were prevented by the CPI-M cadres from going to Nandigram.

New Delhi: At least 11 people were dead in clashes on Wednesday between villagers and police in Nandigram giving state Opposition Trinamool Congress a stick to beat the Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee-led state government with.

On Wednesday, the party alleged that their chief Mamata Banerjee, along with leaders of 'Krishi Jami Banchao Committee' of Singur, were prevented by the CPI-M cadres from going to Nandigram.

Just before leaving for Nandigram, Mamata was quoted as saying, "I am going there despite my ill health. But I don't know whether I can reach Nandigram".

"CPI-M cadres blocked the road near Mecheda and prevented them from going to Nandigram,” news agency PTI quoted Leader of opposition in the state Assembly Partha Chatterjee as saying.

However Chatterjee ruled out the possibility of the party organising any dharna or protests. "Why should we. We have not been allowed to proceed and the police remained inactive,” he was quoted.

Reports from Chandipur said that some journalists going to cover the incident were stopped at Chandipur, about 24 km from Nandigram, by the CPI-M activists who also damaged some vehicles in which mediapersons were moving.
