Uttar Pradesh police have arrested three people for throwing a man from the roof of a single-storey house in the Madeyganj area of Lucknow after he allegedly refused to consume alcohol with them. The police action came after an undated video of the incident went viral on social media which showed that after being hurled from the roof by several individuals, the man was brutally assaulted on the ground by other accomplices.

According to police, the victim has been identified as Ranjit Yadav, who operates a grocery shop in Lucknow’s Ruppur Khadra area.

The video, which seems to be recorded on a mobile phone from the roof of a neighbourhood house, shows a man pushing Ranjit off the terrace with the help of another man standing on the boundary of his home. After Ranjit fell on the road, two other men standing there started assaulting him by throwing punches and kicks at him.

Ranjit is injured in the incident and is recuperating in a hospital.

As per media reports, the assailants were habitual drinkers who frequented Ranjit’s shop.

In his complaint, Ranjit told police that his assailants forcibly entered his house on Friday night and demanded he join them in consuming alcohol. When he refused and asked them to leave, they returned the next day, assaulted him on the roof, and threw him off, according to a report by Times of India.
