The situation is tense as hundreds of radicals gathered at the mosque.

New Delhi: After the explosion outside Lal Masjid in Pakistan, that left 12 people dead, scuffles broke out at the Islamabad-based mosque when it reopened for the first time, after the Pakistani Army flushed out radicals holed up inside the mosque earlier this month.

The situation continues to be tense as hundreds of radicals gathered there. Angry madarssa students reportedly attacked media persons who were at the scene.

The students also unfurled flags on the roof, symbolising a re-occupation of the mosque. They are demanding the release of arrested chief cleric of Lal Masjid, Maulana Abdul Aziz.

Prominent extremist leaders like Liaqat Baluch and Siraj-Ul-Haq are among those leading the Friday prayers in the mosque.

Security forces have put up a cordon around the mosque, but are keeping their distance.
