Howrah: In a shocking and disturbing video, two police officers were seen thrashing an elderly mentally challenged man in Howrah on the outskirts of Kolkata.
The mentally challenged man who is also hearing and speech impaired was allegedly attacking people and vehicles, which prompted the locals of Dobson road to call the police to bring him under control.
The man escaped the clutches of the police and jumped into the well of a nearby garage. Fire services personnel rescued the man after nearly three hours of efforts.
The Assistant sub inspector and a constable of the Golabari Police Station in Howrah who was there at the spot severely beat up the mentally challenged elderly man for "wasting their time".
The man was later, with his hands tied in the back, taken to the Howrah state general hospital where he currently remains admitted.
Howrah police is investigating the case.
