BANGALORE: Not many from the state and Kerala are applying for the State Selection Commission Exam (SSC) for group B and C Central government jobs, said Staff Selection Commission Regional Director S Gopalan.Addressing a news conference here on Wednesday, he said the approximate salary offered in a city like Bangalore will be will be Rs 36,500. The state received 1.5 per cent of the total 3.1 lakh applications from across the country. According to officials, it is noted that not many can interpret the pay packages mentioned by the government. The last date for sending the application is April 20. “Though the state average of getting recruited is higher than the Centre not many apply from here as they feel that they might be posted in different places. There is a sense of insecurity among the Karnataka people with respect to moving out of the places, which is wrong. This attitude and thinking has to change,” Gopalan added. Nearly 9.32 lakh applications from across the country were received from during Combined Graduate Level Examination (CGE), 2011. Out of these, 8,162 were from Karnataka. Around 12,467 posts in different departments were filled. Around 175 applicants from the state were selected. Out of the total posts offered, more than 8,560 were filled on the basis of written examinations. Similarly, in the CGE 2010, the number of candidates from Karnataka was about 7,000 out of 8 lakh applicants. “Only 150 were eventually selected from the state,” he said.Gopalan was told MBA students got placements on a pay package of `2.5 lakh per annum. “When the government is giving around `4lakh a year, people are still not opting for it.
