BANGALORE: On December 31, 2011, the Bangalore Traders Association gifted 10 new dustbins to be installed at MG Road. However, the question remain, is it serving the purpose? How far has it been helpful in keeping MG Road clean. Are they sufficient? Although the donation of 10 dustbins in MG Road made big waves, as far as its maintenance are concerned, there are no improvements.President of the traders association,  Bhoopalam P Srinath said, “We had spent above `4000 in installing the dustbins. It has been 11 days since then and I can see how helpful it has been to the people who comes for a day out.” He further added, “After the metro work was over, we observed that there was an urgent need for dustbins. We have done our work and now it is upto BBMP to look after its maintenance and ensure that they are cleaned every morning, afternoon and evening.”When City Express asked the general public on their opinion on this initiative by the traders association at MG Road, reactions varied. Madhukar, a lawyer, said, “It is good to see such an initiative, but if the gift had come from BBMP itself, it would have made the public feel even better. But I don’t think so that, these 10 small dustbins are enough, most of the time they are over loaded and remain unclean.” Sandeep S R, an employee in ICICI, said, “The dustbins are really small, most of times garbage are spilling out from the dust bin. People are also to be blamed for this.”On the maintenance of the dustbins, the Joint Commissioner, East Zone, K C Shiv Shankar, said, “There are about 20-25 civic workers to ensure that these dust bins are cleaned on regular basis and loaded to the lorries to take it to the dumping point. I personally had installed 4-5 dustbins but either they were knocked out by the people or thieves. These thieves earn a good amount of money by selling them at a different place.” He also informed, “As of now, BBMP has not planned to install  anymore dustbins.”
