As per reports, the name of the accused person was Antony. On the order of the court, a chargesheet was filed against him. The case soon became a long-term investigation as the police department failed to trace him even after 42 years. Tje incident happened on April 1, 1982. In April of this month, the police official shared a post on the Janasnehi Beat Police WhatsApp group asking for leads about this man. This way reportedly worked and the officials got some important leads about the man.
Following a lead from an official, they found out that Antony was residing in the village of Carmona, Goa. The team of Yellapur police quickly acted on the lead and went to his house to arrest him. They found Antony’s wife and son in the house. The family mentioned that Antony passed away. He reportedly took his last breath on April 1, 2022. On the same day, he stole a sugarcane crusher. After stealing it he met with an accident and lost his life. The police took the death certificate from his family as proof and submitted it to the court to close the case.
After several years the case came to an end with the help of a Whatsapp group. The Yellapur police were highly praised for their efforts. The police officials mentioned that this was possible only for the people who helped them with the lead in the WhatsApp group. Several local people praised their responsiveness and proactiveness.
