The Paris Olympics recently concluded with six medals including five bronze and one silver for India. With an above-par performance by some athletes, the craze of the Olympics was witnessed across the world this year. To continue the thrill of the Olympics, a group of event organisers in Chikkamagaluru city of Karnataka orchestrated a multi-sports event at a Football Turf Club on the occasion of Independence Day, August 15, 2024. It only allowed the participation of children from 6 months to 5 years old. The sports event included different types of races. This unique program was named Kiddo Olympics 2024. Children who came along with their parents participated with great joy. They were awarded medals and certificates of participation.
Hundreds of children attended the Kiddo Olympics organised at the football court in Chikkamagaluru city. It was organised by Vande Matram Trust. More than a hundred children participated in the Kiddo Olympics. The children followed the parents’ encouragement and the organiser’s instructions to complete the races. Many won prizes while others received participation certificates. A toddler race was held for 6-month-old children, whereas a 50-metre race was held by the kids of other age groups. The toddler race was fun to watch as it included dramatic twists and turns. The toddler race included 6-7 participants, each trying their best to reach the finish line. The toddler race was one of the highlights of the event.
A hurdle race was also part of the event. At the starting line, the mother or father of the children was present to instruct their child to run with another receiving them at the finish line. It helped the children to understand the task. This is the first time that such a unique program has been organised in the district.
The rules of the event were as follows:
Children from 6 months to 5 years were eligible for participation at Kiddo Olympics 2024.
Birth certificates and Aadhaar cards of participating children were the compulsory documents of the participating children.
Participants must have their shoes. They were not provided by the Kiddo Olympics organisers.
