BANGALORE: Four persons including a woman, who allegedly cheated about 37 persons, by promising them jobs in software major Wipro have been arrested. Cash and valuables worth Rs 58.43 lakh have been recovered from them.
The accused have been identified as Rajeev Ranjan (30), a native of Bihar, Mohammad Azar (25), a native of Hyderabad, Sathyapriya (25), a native of Coimbatore and M N Narayana alias Hari (29) of Kerala. Rajeev was working as the deputy manager of the vehicle loan wing of Kotak Mahindra and allegedly interviewed the victims claiming that he was the managing director of Wipro.

Sathyapriya, who was running a job placement centre called Lotus Consultancy contacted people who were looking out for jobs. She offered them jobs in Wipro, if they paid an initial amount of Rs 1.8 lakh. She would then arrange for a meeting with Azar, who would meet the candidates and informed them to take them to meet Wipro's managing director.

"Rajeev was accustomed to corporate skills so he handled the fake interviews. He also had a fake visitors pass to Wipro office," the police said.

The accused were sharing the money and Rajeev received the major chunk of the collection.

"Most of the victims are from Tamil Nadu and those who have completed M Tech, MCA, BE and other courses have fallen prey to them. Unfortunately, all the victims have been asked to join Wipro on September 7 and most of them still don't know they were cheated," Koramangala police inspector, Sudheer, said.

The police have recovered Rs 43.58 lakh from them. Two cars, two bikes, 145 grams of gold ornaments, fake offer letters and original documents of the victims have also been seized.
