HYDERABAD:  Chief minister Kiran Kumar Reddy’s initiative to give jobs to 1.16 lakh youths before the end of this year has turned out to be a boon for coaching centres for competitive examinations. The initiative is the chief minister’s ploy to wean away jobless youth from the separate Telangana movement. The government has already issued  notifications for 20,000 police constable, 2,200 sub-inspector and 304 Group-I service posts. A District Selection Committee (DSC) notification for 50,000 teacher posts is likely to be issued soon. More than 5,000 junior lecturer posts, vacancies in the electricity department and municipalities will also be filled. This is music to the ears of coaching centres.Anticipating a rush of job applicants wanting to be tutored to ace the recruitment exams, the tutorials have spruced up their coaching manuals and raised their tariff. One institute that coaches candidates for the APPSC Group I main exam has increased its fee from Rs 17,500 (`3,500 per each of five papers) to Rs 25,000. For Group II services, the fee has been hiked from Rs 12,000 to Rs 16,500. Coaching for the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) and DSC recruitment is available for Rs 9,000 where it used to be Rs 4,000 until recently. One institute at Dilsukhnagar hiked its fees for the SI recruitment exam from Rs 5,000 to Rs 9,000. The coaching fee for a constable’s post has gone up from Rs 3,000 to Rs 5,000. Even for VRO and VRA posts, coaching  is likely to cost a candidate Rs 4,000.One coaching centre at Dilsukhnagar has hired a function hall for its 800 candidates hoping to crack the police constable exam. The centre’s existing space is taken over by classes for eight batches of SI aspirants and 10 batches of constable candidates. One tutor at a coaching centre at Ashok Nagar said candidates don’t want to take chances with this job opportunity.
