New Delhi: Jawaharlal Nehru University students Umar Khalid and Anirban Bhattacharya, who are charged with sedition, have been kept in separate room so that they do not influence each other.
During interrogation, Khalid has completely denied anti-national slogans being raised on February 9 during a pro-Afzal Guru event at the campus while Anirban has said slogans were raised. Anirban is, however, not sure whether the slogans were anti-national.
Khalid and Bhattacharya have been sent to three-day police custody.
According to the interrogation details accessed by CNN-IBN, there is contradiction in the versions given by JNUSU president Kanhaiya Kumar and Khalid about the event and role played by the students. While Kanhaiya said it was Khalid who had organised the event, but the latter told police that he was just part of it.
During interrogation, Khalid has revealed that he first went to Jharkhand and then to Ghaziabad. He claimed that he was staying at Ghaziabad before before getting back to the campus.
A police team has been sent to these cities.
Police is also probing if he was trying to save some of his professors who helped him in absconding. Police investigation pointed out that students from other cities had also participated in the JNU event.
Sources said that the involvement of students from Jammu Kashmir is also being probed. They also suspect those five muffled men (shown in the video) to be from Jammu and Kashmir.
Khalid and Bhattacharya are among the five students who, along with JNUSU President Kanhaiya Kumar, had allegedly shouted anti-national slogans at an event organised in the university campus to mark the death anniversary of 2001 Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru on February 9.
