CHENNAI: On behalf of Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa, City Public Prosecutor ML Jegan has filed a criminal complaint against DMK treasurer MK Stalin and Tamil newspaper Tamil Murasu editor, printer and publisher, RMR Ramesh, for filing a false and derogatory complaint against the CM.The complaint filed before the Principal Sessions Judge sought to punish the duo for offences under Sections 500 and 501 of the IPC. In his complaint to the Addl Director General of Police (Administration) on December 2 last year, Stalin had alleged that the CM had grabbed land in Kodanadu in the Nilgiris and Siruthavur near Chennai. The plaint sought to register an FIR against the CM for land grabbing, extortion, intimidation and threatening the public. Later, Stalin had also issued a press statement alleging that the police had filed false cases against him, his associate Raja Shankar and others alleging that they had threatened, coerced and forced a person called NS Kumar to sell his property on Chittaranjan Road here.Stalin had made the false and malicious statements solely with an intention to malign the CM’s reputation. The averments in the complaint and the press statement were totally false. The statements were per se defamatory touching upon the discharge of the CM’s functions and duties. By making such false, frivolous and mischievous imputations, Stalin had intended to harm the reputation of the CM, the complaint said and sought to punish Stalin and Ramesh.
