CHENNAI: Amid reports that the public will be facing hardship in visiting their hometowns to celebrate the Pongal festival due to insufficient transport facilities, Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa on Thursday announced that special buses will be operated to all parts of the State until the festival ends.As many as 1,115 buses were operated on January 12 and 1,965 buses will be run on January 13 and 14. The number of special buses on January 15 will be determined as per requirements, an official release said. From Koyambedu bus terminus, 557 buses were operated on January 12, while 1,257 buses will be run on January 13 and 14. Similar number of buses will be operated between January 17 and 22 so that the people could return after the celebrations. The CM has directed that the Online Ticket Reservation System should be extended to the special services also.Jayalalithaa said arrangements have been made at Koyambedu for the public to lodge complaints regarding the collection of excess fare. They can call 04424794709 and register their complaints and the department will take immediate action on those who charge excess, an official release here said.
