'It was like an official hijack'

New Delhi: After a chaotic morning due to fog delays at the Delhi airport, flights are taking off now.

The endless flight delays and cancellations left the stranded passengers incensed.

The Delhi-bound Air Sahara flight from Mumbai was diverted to Lucknow and passengers were forced to spend the night on the Lucknow tarmac without any food or water.

After a harrowing night, this is what some of them had to say:

"This is an official hijack. They didn’t give us anything while we were inside the aircraft. There was no food, nothing. The pilot walked out and the crew also left, leaving us here."

"Very unprofessional attitude. They were keeping us in the dark and kept changing their stories. They didn’t even book us into a hotel."

"There was absolute mayhem. There was nobody to guide us or tell us. I spent the whole night and not even a cup of tea was offered to me."

"It's really very poor service, I don’t think I will ever fly Air Sahara again,"

A cold wave swept through the Capital and the much-dreaded fog was back causing flight delays and cancellations in the morning.

There were no take-offs from the airport and two flights were cancelled and eight were delayed.

Visibilty at the airport at 0700 hrs (IST) was less than 50 metres and the Air India flight to London to Delhi flight was diverted to Mumbai.

The utter confusion caused due to indefinite delays or cancellations has left passengers outraged. They are complaining that the information being displayed at the flight kiosks at the airport is not consistent with what the airline personnel are saying.

Though an Indian Airlines flight from Delhi to Ahmedabad did take off - but there were no landings at the Delhi Airport.

The Met Department says that foggy weather will prevail for the next couple of days, though the situation will not be as bad as it was in December 2005.
