New Delhi: Despite the hardest efforts to keep a secret, it is revealed that Arjun Rampal is going to play the character RA.One in the film 'RA.One'. Although the rumours were doing rounds for some weeks but the scenario got cleared only after an Arjun Rampal interview where he smilingly confessed that he is playing RA.One.
Since three-four years, Arjun Rampal has evolved as an actor who can portray villainous characters with relative ease.
It does not seem possible but he has already spent ten years in the Hindi film industry. His debut film 'Pyar Ishq Mohabbat' was released in the year 2001 and the film was accepted to a good extent by the movie goers. Moderately successful 'Pyar Ishq Mohabbat' presented Rampal as another Shah Rukh Khan follower. His expressions in the film were mostly on the lines of 'Rahul Shah Rukh Khan' but Arjun somehow managed to gain recognition for his acting style.
Rampal tried real hard in the years to follow in films such as 'Moksha', 'Deewanapan', 'Dil Hai Tumhara' and 'Dil Ka Rishta'. He played everything from a typical upper class businessman to a passionate admirer. Most of his films did not work at the box office but Rampal did one smart thing in spite of several flops.
He did not accept petty roles just to fulfil the screen space. This strategy started to pay back after some time when Rampal got his first major role as villain Mukesh Mehra in 'Om Shaanti Om'.
The film became a roaring success at the commercial level and Arjun got another lease of life.
Arjun Rampal knew his boundaries as an actor and thus he did not overdo any character and remained stuck to similar type of roles which showcased him mostly in serious character roles.
Meanwhile, he was also learning a lot from seniors as Amitabh Bachchan and Shah Rukh Khan.
Abhishek Kapoor's 'Rock On' provided Rampal a part of the long overdue credit. Probably this was the first time when he was hailed by both the critiques and the common movie buffs, something he had not achieved even with a content driven film like 'The Last Lear.
This new found confidence helped him in 'Housefull' where Arjun did not look weaker than any relatively more acclaimed fellow actor. Major Krishna Rao's character remained as much in prominence as Akshay Kumar's in the film.
But, the real image change happened with Prakash Jha's 'Rajneeti', where Arjun Rampal donned Prithviraj Pratap. Hard hitting dialogue coupled with self-assured body language did the trick for Rampal.
His good looking presence as villain satisfies those people too who watch films just for the sake of entertainment.
Now, when Arjun is once again all set to sizzle the screen in 'RA.One', even Shah Rukh Khan will have to work extra hard to look as handsome as Arjun. It's just the irony that Arjun Rampal was once called as another copy of Shah Rukh Khan.
