London: A Birmingham court has sentenced Indian student Nagaraja Kumar Nalluri to life for killing a fellow student from Andhra Pradesh.

Nalluri must serve a minimum of 25 years before being considered for parole.

A Birmingham judge found Nalluri guilty of murder and sexual assault.

The sensational murder hit headlines on May 6.

A 23-year-old Samrajya Jyothirmai Vempala died of severe head injuries after Nalluri hit her in the head with dumbbells.

Nalluri then tried to have sex with her. He also used a knife to cut his wrists and neck and wrote "I love Jyothi" in his own blood on the wall.

Nalluri and the victim had trained together in India before coming to the UK in 2007 for a PG course in health studies at Wolverhampton University.

They were sharing the same accommodation with other doctors.
